The third part of the series kicks of exactly where the second
finished. Set in Medieval times, "Ash" (Bruce Campbell) has gone
back in time to where the evil was first unleashed. Ash is sent on a mission
to retrieve the "Necronomicron" (Book of the Dead) from its resting
place so that the local druids can send him back to his real time. After the
most loopy fight in the Evil Dead series he finally makes it to the place
where the book is. He starts to recite a sacred passage which is meant to
free the book but gets it wrong and unleashes the "Army of Darkness"
upon the land. The dead start to rise and a great battle ensues which of course
Ash shows off his fighting skills and his boomstick (shotgun). With even more
slapstick humor than the previous film and less gore this has got to be one
of the funniest spin offs in cult history and very entertaining.
The DVD contains both versions of the film, which are the U.S.
theatrical version and the original directors cut with the extra 15 minutes
of footage and the alternate apocalypse ending. Groovy!
