REVIEW
Another notorious entry in the banned list, which actually outshone Star Wars for a while in the Japanese film charts upon its release in 1977.
There is no story as such, it is actually a series of clips rather than a film, which investigates all different forms of death, from both a human and also an animal perspective. It has caused no end of controversy to whether some of the deaths portrayed are actually real.
Doctor Frances B. Gross is our host for the evening from a mortuary, where we are treated to firstly, a bout of open-heart surgery, before jumping to various different clips of charming activities such as two pit bulls tearing each other to pieces, a bull fight, and an obviously fake scene of some people eating monkey brains.
As the “film” goes on, we are also treated to some footage of an alligator attacking a park warden, some concentration camp film, and a parachutist who falls to his death at an air show, before the documentary spools off some newsreel footage and finally ends in a strange investigation into the spirit world.
Overall, more of a documentary than a film, which will be offensive to some. As far as I know, the only actual real death on the film is the one where the parachutist falls to his death. I am happy to be proved wrong on this though.
