REVIEW
Extremely violent and notorious SS Camp nasty, which is easily the best, and most powerful, of the SS film genre. It is also the only one which actually examines the idea/purpose of the concentration camp in detail, and as a result, the film was banned due to the extremely disturbing and violent scenes. Released way back in 1976 on the VIP label, and for die-hard nasty collectors out there, it is available on the Videoshack label as well, which is easily the rarest (and most valuable) of the 39 nasties.
The film kicks off as we drive around the countryside and find that the driver is Von Starker (Marc Loud) a former Nazi death camp commander, who has been released from prison. He picks up Lise (Daniela Poggi) who is one of the surviving prisoners at the camp, and together, they drive back to the ruins of the camp. The meat of the film plays in flashbacks, as we discover that Lise was Von Starker’s play-thing, whom was subject to horrific tortures as he was determined not to kill her, but to break her spirit.
As we see flashbacks to the camp when it was in operation, we get to observe some lovely sights, such as a menstruating girl being thrown to the dogs, and after biting Von Starker’s chopper, Lise is raped by the guards and strung up over a vat of lime and some rats. We are treated to a view of a mass orgy, where they show some pretty obscure clips on a screen. Such as images of people smeared in shit and a pair of people tied together in the 69 position. After the slideshow, the males all pounce on the naked females and rape them, and in another sick scene, the big fat ugly birds, whom the males rejected in the orgy, are then led into an underground chamber and burned alive.
Meanwhile, Von Starker, along with Alma, his nasty female sidekick, continually fail to break Lise, and she is sent to see the doctor in order to sort her depression out. He tells her that she isn’t to blame for turning her family over to the Nazis, and she gets a new lease of life – as well as giving the doctor a good bucking in the process. She begins an affair with Von Starke, and becomes pregnant with his child, whom at the end of the flashback sequences, takes the baby boy from her at birth and orders its death because it has Jewish blood. The film closes in the ruins of the camp, as Lise and Von Starker have sex up against a pillar, and she kills them both with a pistol.
Overall, very powerful and hard-hitting stuff, and
if you aren’t offended by extreme violence and overall nastiness, then
this is a gripping picture. There is actually a longer version, for which
the UK distributors wisely chopped an entire 11 minute sequence out of upon
UK release. The scene involves a dinner banquet, where Von Starker and some
other guys are around a table, and a Jewish girl comes in and serves a dish
which is unborn Jewish baby meat. The girl gets stripped, brandy thrown on
her and she is set alight. Lovely!
