REVIEW
Notorious splatter-fest from our old favourite Lucio Fulci of Zombie Flesh Eaters and New York Ripper fame.
The story follows Norman and Lucy Boyle (Paolo Malco and Katriona MacColl) and their young son Bobby (Giovanni Frezza) who move from their New York apartment to a large country house in New England. Here we find that the last guy who lived in the house died from mysterious circumstances.
Before they leave, Bobby is reluctant to go after being visited by a ghostly girl called May – who becomes significant later. As they arrive at the house, Lucy is a little paranoid and this is made worse when a strange babysitter called Ann arrives. She discovers a tombstone of a Dr Freudstein, so they decide to move out. When the Estate Agent arrives for her appointment, it isn’t long before she is killed and Ann has her head cut off. Cue young Bobby to go down into the cellar and find her missing dial!
As the film goes on, we discover that Dr Freudstein
is still in the house, or under the house if you like, and he is regenerating
himself “Hellraiser style” by killing human beings. Norman has
a scrap with the monster, and gets his throat torn out. As Lucy and Bobby
try to escape, Lucy ends up getting killed as well. Cue a strange sequence,
as Bobby gets out with the help of his “imaginary friend” May,
and we discover that she was in fact the daughter of the Freudsteins.
