Toshiaki Toyoda is the most important young director working in Japan today and his latest work does him some justice. Blue Spring is a "Battle Royale" style film, starring young actors and containing reams and reams of psycho violence. A group of students are in their final year at school and decide to fuck the system and revolt. Instead of studying Maths and Japanese they delve deep into the study of gritty and shocking violence. A lot of thought has gone into the making of this film and it is definitely not to be confused with the usual school kid flicks, this one has real balls and will be around for quite a while, it's a kind of "Breakfast Club" crossed with "Reservoir Dogs". If you into Japanese flicks go buy this film or just rent it out, I promise you wont be disappointed.
