This has got to be one of the greatest werewolf
films of our time! Two American backpackers walking across the moors in Yorkshire
find their way to a pub called "The Slaughtered Lamb". To their
dismay they realize that they are not welcome and are asked to leave. The
pub owner argues their case for them but could not stop the locals from booting
them out into the dark cold night. One of the locals warns them to "Stay
on the road, don't go near the moors". They leave the pub a bit miffed
and guess what happens, yes that`s right, they wander onto the moors. After
ambling along for a while they realize that they are not alone. They can hear
a wild animal circling them in the dark. It moves in for the kill and rips
one of them to pieces. The other manages to survive with only one war wound
but the nightmare has only just begun.
Stunning special effects (by Richard Baker)
and an excellent story line (directed by John Landis) make this one of the
best werewolf films ever. Good direction mixed with atmosphere and a great
cast and music make this a surefire hit and not to be missed. Check out the
remastered special edition on DVD.
