A group of tourists take a trip to a mysterious Greek Island
for a short break. When they arrive they find the island village deserted,
except for a strange woman, who is lurking about in the shadows. On returning
to their ship, they find that it has drifted away from the shore line, and
they must spend the night on the island.
They shack up in the islands main building and one by one the group fall victim
to the islands terror. The terror being that of the "Anthropophagous
Beast". A deranged, cannibalistic lunatic sent mad when stranded sea
by the death of his wife and son and the confusion of having to eat them to
survive.
The suspense builds and the thunder flashes. As the storm closes in so does
the Grim Reaper for his lunch. There are some really gross parts in this film
and I can see why the prudish BBFC banned it. The version in the U.K. is cut
even though on the BBFC website it says it isn't. It is missing 2 vital gore
scenes, the eating of the foetus, the eating of the guts.
Overall, this is one of my favourite munchers
and the home of horror gives it a well deserved 5 star rating. Yummy.
